Manhwa = Korean Manga

Ares is a Korean manhwa that takes place in the era of ancient Rome in a country called Cronos and follows a group known as the Temple Mercenaries. In particular, the manhwa is about Ares and his brothers in arms Baroona and Michael.

A kid by the name of Ares decides to go and join a mercenary group called the temple mercenaries, but not for the fighting, he joins for the food and shelter that they provide. He meets a kid called Michael along the way and finds out that he too is heading to the mercenary group. They then head there together. There they gotta take a simple test against B ranked soldiers before they can get in, and pass with ease. During the test they meet Baroona and the forth member of their group, a cowardly artist named Gohue. They all rise to B rank after first mission, but are stronger than the A ranked soldiers.



Little info on the 4 main characters:

Ares: The protagonist of the story and an apprentice of the deceased Kiron, famous Master Swordsman of Chronos. Kiron, who had lost his sight, was murdered by the Red-Eyed Swordsman. Ares is devoted to avenging his master’s death by killing the Red Eyed Swordsman and taking back his sword.

Michael: He has come to Chronos to experience war and the life of commoners. He is well educated and intelligent, understanding many strategies used in battles and wars. He is also the most bloodthirsty of the three main characters.

Baroona: A former Daraakian Slave. He escaped the Radink Alliance after becoming the champion gladiator. He is the only one of the three who does not use a sword. He fights with two daggers tied to the ends of a metal chain.

Gohue: A temple mercenary whose true passion is for painting. He joined the mercenaries so that he could witness and paint the passion of epic battles. His fighting skills are nonexistant and he survives battles by playing dead or hiding.

There will be other characters, including some interesting ones, just those 4 are most interesting ones in the story.


My review:

It has a nice plot to it, great fighting scenes, interesting characters, nice twist in the story, and is funny at times too.


Slight helpfull info: It ain't writen like the Japanese manga, it reads left to right, not right to left. The drawings ain't 100% the greatest all the time, some times they are, but not always.


It's really good manhwa, so if you haven't read it or heard of it before I highly recommend it because it has a descent plot and amazing fight/battle/war sequences and its kind of funny as well. If I could have read the other 11 volumes of it I could give it a rating on how nice it is, but since it still is in process of getting translated I don't know how it ends or what happens in the rest of the manga.. But I still recommend it to people to read, it is great. But as of now I'd give it a 8/10, due to not knowing how it ends..

Sounds interesting, i'll give it a read later on thanks for the review [i understood it all ]

EDIT :

Read it up to chapter 100 or so, this is a bloody manga, the plot is very good, don't expect this to be one of those manga where 'the good guy always wins'

This is a manga full of betrayal, battles, people who try to use cunning and guile and so forth and also politics

Ofc you have your main character who is a bit on the daft side xD

Be really cool if they made an anime of this manga. It would actually make a nice anime, even though there's still like 10 volumes of it that aren't translated yet.. Talked to a few that can read Korean and they say it is nice. So basing on that it would make a very nice and interesting anime.

Yeah its a great manhwa i read it about 4 months ago the art may be a little bad at first but once u get used to it u will surelly enjoy it .

Be nice if they released more than 2 chapters a month or so, got like 11 or so volumes left to translate and at this speed...

yeah i know KMTS is the group translating this and they are really slow and they have so many projects man cant they foucs on one manga/manhwa and then go to the others they also translate other good manhwas like ID an UXU but it's release's are just as bad as Ares i hope another group pick's up this great manhwa ...

Would be nice if there was, but I don't know if I'd want another group translating it. Since they could do a very crappy job and ruin a great manhwa. Sure 2-3 chapters a month is slow, but atleast they do a great job at it. Currently reading a lot of the manhwa's they are translating, so sorta getting use to only seeing 2-3, sometimes with some 4, chapters a month. Slow great work > fast poor work
