I have to admit, I was dissappointed.
Admittedly, his artwork was gorgeous, and with a series that starts about panties, the echi must be high. But how many friggin' times must someone trip and land in an 'unfortunate/fortunate' way? It was completely overused. This series not only played on every sexual-innuendo-ecchi cliche in the book, it used the same ones multiple times. Let alone more T&A characters being brought in, and being too one dimensional to add in an allegory that could have been used by the main 4.
One of the parts that made this more acceptable was that the writer at the end completely admitted to this problems either through a) his own words, or b) The Omake's. His humility softened the blow being that...hey, if I had callouses like that poor writer did, I'd be stressed out of my mind too. (He shows a pic of it somewhere). It's obvious the guy did the best he could, and freely admitted that for the majority of the manga he targeted Touya(spelt?) and Manaka to be together, and not Nishino.
Sats and Yui were very underused, which is a darn shame (Even both complain about this in the Omake's) and I believe the author could have spent time on them to let them grow - I actually thought Ichigo 100% was different at first because one of the man four girls was a friendship-only relationship, which many series never bother to use. He should have moved past the standard (call her up just to get information on Nishino) and fleshed out that relationship more to be used as a foundation for Manaka's growth.
Otherwise the ending has too many Deus Ex Machina moments: It just happens that Sats has a family restaurant to go to, it just happens that Yui simply stays in college (doing what?), and the biggest it just happens that Manaka suddenly doesn't mind manual labor, suddenly doesn't mind traveling around the world, and somehow learned the abilities to do a documentary. And then, somehow, with no communication?? has Nishino show up on time to be his 'beloved'. At least Touya(spelt?) and Nishino's development made sense as the author spent enough time going over the trials (Touya had talent, and it grew - Nishino sucked at cooking, but worked hard) towards what they had/have become.

In the end, it is still a good series, just:
1) The author does make a big deal (when Manaka is visited by the older director) that critism is important, so I feel free to do so here.
2) The promise of the series was so great, that it's a letdown when it has only an average final volumes. I have read many romantic comedies and others just do character development better. And in the end, its the characters we are truly drawn too, not just the panties.
3) You could have cut out many characters and chapters, and still had the same story. It just went on for too long.
4) The main characters themselves, let alone the artwork, are still wonderful - and we can only hope other mangaka take note.

I think I have to agree with on all of that. I think the manga only focused on the main heroines of the story (It was titled after the pattern of their panties after all). That's why Manaka didn't get the development he deserved ,I think. Oh, Touya is actually spelled Tojo.

That's the style of her storytelling but I have to admit that all of your saying is true....
And Manaka is interested in documentary movie... I said that because he wanted to film a girl with the stawberry(Engrish?) panties exposed in the first chapter although in the end he made the drama or such movie at the school fest.....

Her humble explanations near the end helped to ease the blow of the storytelling. Especially because I could see how hard it was (especially physically...those callouses on her hands were....well, ouch!)
And again, her artwork is fantastic. I enjoyed the Ai Yori Aoshi storyline better, but the artwork is only half as good as Ichigo 100%. And Vampire Princess Miyu has a great storyline too, but the mangaka has a bad tendency to not do any backgrounds - which takes away from the effect.
Those callouses are well-earned.

I guess it's just the fact that you notice the 2 inch dent in your new porche, then you would on your old '98 Honda.
So many parts of Ichigo 100% were so good, then when something fell through - it just hits harder.

I just never thought about it in that way. (past the ecchi-ness, and him wanting a relationship)
But you're right, he did put a filming twist on it, didn't he?

I am still wondering why Nishino accepted Manaka's confession. He was the boy who never realised she existed until near the end of middle school. And to accept a confession from him when the first time she talked to him was when she caught him arguing with his friends about girls panties? I don't get it.
