*points to his overcrowded wall and shelves*
Try collecting them for 10+ years. I simply do NOT have the room anymore. So I would rather have an online copy. Yeah, it's not as comfortable, but I simply do not have the room anymore. And neither do the Japanese. Over there they have tons of used-manga stores. Because they get overstocked as well. My favorite store while I visited Japan is called BOOK-OFF [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] And apparently they just opened one in New York: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] They reason I liked it so much, because it's a spinoff store from a second-hand store called....yeah...I know I giggled too: HARD-OFF C'mon, how can anyone red-blooded American male NOT want to twist that store name around? Here's the quote from wiki: It expanded from merely used books to used second-hand merchandise through its Hard Off stores |

I may prefer a hard copy and I have a fairly big selection of manga at home now, but so much just isn't available to me, in English. Therefore I read it online, it's that simple.
I have a load of Mx0 & FMA volumes at home because I can get them :3. |

aww you can buy MxO where you live
...Wish I could get that one where I live, but no, they don't believe in selling manga anywhere near me ..Most volumes I own in person are the Naruto ones(ones that are out in English so far and the others that are soon to be), but I had to buy them directly from Viz Media, and a handful of random others(usually 4-10 volumes), but had to buy those from online stores too... Wish I had places near me that sold mangas..

im not against downloading. if its what u want to do thats fine with me. but me personally i read manga and watch anime to find out which ones i want to buy to own, b/c i dont want anymore anime/manga companies going out of business. gainax went out business b/c of all the fansubs and illegal downloads, so gurren lagann will be their last contribution which is very sad for me b/c i think they come up with some of the best stories ever presented. but that is just my point of veiw. and i may be wrong about gainax but im pretty sure they're the ones that went out of business, i do know that an anime company went out business at the least.

well I've got all the volumes of Dragonball in their American print by Viz and Talk about a waste of money. Now Do the math, at 9 bucks each and 42 volumes I spent $378 on Dragonball alone. Had I continued to buy other mangas that I love like Rurouni Kenshin and FMA, I would be even more piss broke and I would have to work 2 part time jobs and still go to school.
Online just makes a lot more economic sense to me. Although I do like the fact that I could carry around a book with me to reaad. I still prefer online now. On a side note due to the fact that I have a Moto Q on a 3g network I can read my manga anywhere.

I like reading online/download images because then I don't have to worry about misplacing the print or having it get damaged or anything. If a series is good I'll buy it. However, I don't tend to read much in the way of manga. Bleach and Ah My Goddess is pretty much it, because for Bleach I was impatient to see what happens next and for AMG I was peeved that the anime was over and I needed a Belldandy fix heh.

Of course, having the hard copy in your hands is best, you can read it anywhere (I love to read manga when traveling
)...But as some people pointed, in cases like Naruto, there is no choice but to read it online, since it takes a long time for the English version to catch up... |

hard copy for me, but i agree that they pile up extremely fast. i do everything at this computer and reading has always been a way to get me away from the computer.
there are plenty of instances where you have no choice but to dl if you want to read it - i do it often enough especially in regards to dj, hentai, yuri, and yaoi one-shots. |
