while i was in HK, all the signs were in chinese w/ english translations directly under it. If you're going there for vacation i'm assuming you're going to a popular city (tourist), so more than likely they have put up some english help signs. While on my plane ride to HK, we stopped by japan for a little, and there were some signs in english too, so i wouldn't expect too much of a problem.

jsut don't get lost

Heh, thanks for the reply. I'm planning on visiting Tokyo and staying somewhere in the vicinity, I just want to explore the area and avoid doing one of those "vacation tours" where everything is guided because I feel that would be like seeing Japan through an American lens, I have friend who lives about an hour from Tokyo (by train) so he might be able to show me around but all I'm worried about is if I get lost will I be able to find my way back to the hotel / train / food / w/e with just english ..I speak fluent russian too... though I doubt that would ever help...

get a handbook of "simple Japenese"

no doubt people will laugh at you and have no idea wtf ure saying, but if that happens you can draw and point out hwat u mean in the book. It'll help lots. And i'm pretty sure they have Jap/English in tokyo, but this needs confirmation

Okies, if your worried about getting lost in Tokyo train station i say ... BE SCARED... there are like 60 platforms ^^ but dw, most of the things have signs + lots of pictures Also about food and stuff they have lots of pictures.. but not really that much of what it is in english
Hotel names are usually in english with big katakana lol

i'm still completely supporting the idea of getting a simple japenese handbook, using your friend a lot won't hurt eiter . Just don't go anywhere by yourself, and if u do memorize every little thing you do

heya,
Um so I still dont get how to get this program to work properly. I have the actual RS program installed but when I open it, it says there are no language packs. I downloaded all the language packs and they are all still zipped up but I think I need step by step instructions on how to get the other stuff to work....

signed,
so lost

I think you need to unzip the language files and normally there's an installation file in the language files.. can't remember if it's that though, used it ages ago ^^'

I thnk you ahve to extract the files for the langauge packs, then place the packs into a folder in the RS somewhere, not too sure where.

reply if it works or not
