Default Stream H264

What does anitube currently stream the videos as? If anitube streamed in h264 you could reduce file size to keep same quality or same file size for higher quality.

Some are in AVI, some are in H264/mkv. There are a few flv's floating around too.

I think the files being streamed on anitube are more than likely all FLV files. Keeps it simple.

It's all streamed in FLV. It keeps it simple as said by Establish, H264 requires more CPU and people that have rubbish PCs cannot run it (A lot of people have rubbish PCs )

LIES lol

whatever, running in H264 isn't exactly that smart anyways. They are , in general, the largest of most video file sizes, it'd be unreasonable to use them when compared to FLV, in terms of streaming anyways.

I thought H264 gives the best compression quality ratio. Given the same quality, h264 can compress to a smaller file size compared to divx. But yeah to run h264 compressed vieos require more cpu power and most fansubbers usually encode their HD version with h264.
And the latest flash player 9 supports H264

I was only comparing them to FLV's, and the fact is that FLV's are incredibly smaller in comparison. They are better for streaming since the file size is so small, and the rate is nice too. Unless every1 in the world magically gets 2 gigs of ram, then it'll be pointless to use h264.

Just to say to people, most users don't have whopping more that 1mb, or 1gb, internet connection, so using H264's in streaming would not only make the video loading on your own pc, it would also affect the host, thus affecting other users if most of the video's there are H264. well, as said by everyone, it would still depend on hardware. hehe. take Code Geass for example, its so high in quality(H264) my pc lags if I have 5 programs running with my player, so better off with the Xvid's if you have crap pc's.

Too bad FLV's run a LOT smoother than avi's lol
