Hmm.. I'm guessing you'd need some classical music ;P , Gundam SEED has some nice classical anime type music, you may want to check that out.

Anime Music is JAPANESE music ! What you said was REAL rubbish man! So many anime songs come from Japanese groups >_> , I'll agree that not ALL anime songs aren't Japanese music, but that statement is false

i believe geezer is referring to J-Pop/J-Rock, and though the majority of anime music falls into one of these categories can often cause the idea of J-Pop/Rock to become synonymous with "Anime Music."

unfortunately, most J-Pop is bad. which is unfortunate. But fear not, as there is some good out there! An example of good J-Pop is the ending theme to Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and a good example of J-Rock is the first opening theme to Fullmetal Alchemist.

But i digress, and return to my point. Japanese Music, unfortunately, suffers this same fate. that is, all the good music coming out of japan is overshadowed by the J-Pop/Rock. The two become synonymous; "Japanese music? oh, you mean J-Pop, right?" However, there is an amazing jazz scene in Japan, as well as traditional rock, and techno.

well, if you want good JAPANESE music, you'll have to go looking for it yourself, as little ever makes it into my hands anymore.

but if you're looking for anime music that does not fit the stereotype, steer yourself in the direction of Cowboy Bebop (amazing jazz/rock/blues soundtrack, composed by Yoko Kanno, one of my favorite composers), FLCL (great rock soundtrack, and the Pillows have a stand alone album as well, PENALTY LIFE, that isn't half bad), Ghost In The Shell (any of them, they are all great soundtracks, and the series OST's are also composed by Yoko Kanno ), or Last Exile (probably not what you're looking for, most of it is pretty slow, but nonetheless it's all beautifully composed and executed.)

PRE EDIT EDIT: ok, i just reread OP, and realized that that might be exactly what you're looking for. the last exile soundtrack is a good call, as is the RahXephon soundtrack (opening theme "hemisphere" is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. brings a tear to my eye every time i hear it, even if it is just sentiment for the series). Also, definitely grab the Ghost In The Shell S.A.C 2nd Gig OST, and check out "Cyberbird". "Psychadelic Soul", "Living Inside The Shell" and "I Do" (listen to them in order, if you're a sensitive, emotional individual like me "I Do" is moving, to say the least). there's a couple things on the first GITS soundtrack too, but they're not quite on the same level (though "Beauty Is Within Us" is a great track, and "Monochrome" has nearly the same effect as "I Do" for me. Y'know, now that i think about it, "Where Does This Ocean Go?" is great as well. Hell, just go ahead and get that too ). Hmm..... Samurai Champloo's "Shiki no Uta"......."Rever's Revenge" off FLCL OST 1......."Rain (Female Vocal)", "Green Bird", "Space Lion" and "Blue", all from Cowboy Bebop (these are all really more about the feeling of the piece, not actual romance, and have much more sentimental value if you've seen the series)........"Motherland" off Fullmetal Alchemist......the list would continue but i'm tired.

I realize now that i've written it, that some of this stuff i have off of boxed collector OSTs, and some of the stuff i listed you can't get except out of these things. So, if you see something you like/remember, and you can't find it anywhere, hit me up a PM and we'll figure out a way to get some to you.

...

whew. do i get kudos, Z-A?

long summary, read some of it.

if anime music is "real japenese music" then theres soemthing wrong, cause the lyrics are extremly corny and bad. .

and I've listened to "real" (or what i considered real) jap music, sounded a lot nicer, better voices and stuff too lol.

Agreed. However, there is no denying that J-Pop is socially accepted as "japanese music" by most of the western world.
