High Schools in the US are over rated/useless. At most, it makes you THINK about your own future... but it won't really prepare you for whats to come ( especially if you're going to college ) I already know ( and I believe that most of us DO know this ) that asian HS's are a lot more "extreme" in their academic requirements for their students, which will make them more prepared for college, but not neccessarily for life

People keep repeating the same darn thing. I know that some countries such as Asia and India value highschool greatly, that may be true but thats not gonna convince me that highschool was useful. Also I'll throw in another reason I think highschool is useless to fuel the arguments, sports scholarships. Sports scholarships sort of defeat the whole purpose of studying in highschool, because if your really good in sports it doesn't really matter how good or bad your grades are, you are guaranteed to go to college if one scouts you and for free even.

you know, we created HS not to compare it with college, I think most of us are not genius to talk about that nah nah nah. HS is important becuz it's the way to life. You guy may say it is useless, but for me who attend HS in asia and the US, I think that HS help me to mature in that period of age. Why ?? after have been through many situations I could tell that ppl who finished HS and ppl who didnt finish HS but go straight to CC are different.

What is useless and what is useful ? For each person it's different. AND HOW MANY TALENT PPL WE HAVE AS YOU SAID ESN_FISH.

I agree with dvtq, i don't think that HS is useless, it may be easy and you might not learn anything that you're going to use in Uni, but it teaches you life skills. Plus for people who don't go to uni, they use HS a lot. My HS is pretty strict, people get into trouble for having their ties undone and stuff.. yes... we have ties.. even the chicks.. As well as this, we're given opportunities to do advanced stuff etc..
And for the sports or music scholarships, at my HS if you don't keep your grades up with your talents, your scholarship gets taken away, so you can't have just talent.

I guess it depends on the highschool. I went to two high schools, we moved between my sophomore and junior years, and they both didn't strike me as that useful. Also I found my self maturing much more from interaction with my friends over actually being in highschool itself.

The problem is with the High School here in the United States is that the Political Groups have gotten hold on Education.. They do not want more educated people voting and questioning there actions once elected.

In HS the Political Correct group got a hold of approving our history books...
They made sure that the book refereed to each ethnic group correctly. .. But did not check for historical accuracy. Little things such as it stated that Japan was an ally to the US in WW2, In the Korean War The U.S.A. dropped Nuclear bombs on China... those are just a few of the major errors that I found...

After that I lost a lot of faith in my schools ability to educate me.

One sad fact is that the US education system has been falling since the 1960's
One of my Grandmothers books( She used to teach fifth grade in the early Fifties ) math book was harder than my Algebra 2 book.. All the class books she had were equal to or superior to my high school books.. this was ten years ago, I would hate to see what they have for books now..

Public School has changed from a learning institute to a Day care system so the parents do not have to watch over there child during the work day.

Now High School graduates have very poor math, reading comprehension, and writing abilities.

I can see that corporations will start private schools just to insure that they have a competent work force.

When I graduated HS, They would pass you if you could Walk and chew gum at the same time.. Now I think that Breathing is the only requirement to graduate from high schools now...

Well, a lot of it depends on the school. My public high school gave an amazing education and I actually learned a lot, though some of the individual grading methods and teaching methods I had issues with. It didn't really directly prepare me for college, except for math classes, but it did teach me a lot, so I'm not really sure if it's necessary, but it's not useless.

Yea it all depends on location. Here in New Orleans we one of the worst school systems. Many of my friends couldn't pass standardized test and were kept back. You'd be surprised how many people don't graduate.
