I am a happy 17 years old boy and I doubt I will stop watching anime when I'm 30... Probably I will watch them with my wife or something (If I will have one anyways..
)

And yeah you just mentioned the most popular during that time. I still have my VHS tapes of Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Ninja Scroll. Though I tried to aim for the Japanese, even though for most of those series the companies (back then) went the distance and actually spent time getting the English to work right. Otherwise, remember how many bad dubs we had to suffer through? (shivers) Quote:
As you'll find out, the core of you who are is still there when you are 30. Ergo, unless you get hit with something tramautic, you'll basically be the same person with 10 more years experience. Quote:

I've noticed some huuuuge changes in anime, compared to the old 'kill 'em all' days (or magical girl days, depending if you wanted Shoujo or Shounen). Some animes actually have...*gasp*...common sense in them! (see Guardian of the Sacred Spirit, its common sense almost made it boring) Or when people get slaughtered, it actually mattered. Although I've still noticed the Japanese tradition of making warships out of compressed explosives. There's no reason for an entire ship to explode, unless you are hit by the death star, yet if you wing a ship in the bow, the stern will go up like a roman candle nonetheless. Quote:

But oh yeah, you are mentioning the old staples: Bubblegum was a bit of a 'kill 'em all' anime (you could tell who would die quickly), that tried to make up for it in Crash. MD Geist - great armor, but man..the death. But I never got a chance to see Maddox.*laughs*! I forgot about the eye-pain of the old subs! You are so right about the small font with jagged edge. I think I buried those evil memories. Quote:
I looked! I swear I did! (as a thread for us 'old geezers' (yeah, I saw what you said Naruto-da-hokage!) to discuss the evolution of anime/manga over the past 20-odd years.)Quote:

Hopefully both. Some of my most enjoyable memories is watching with my fiance/wife. And from those interests she became a Translator. Again, its really enjoyable to say 'I love you' in Japanese to someone, and you can do it in public and get away with it. 99.9% of the time no one else knows what you are saying. Sidenote for guys without romantic interests: It's also good to curse out a bad salesperson in Japanese, as they don't know what you are talking about. Especially if you are smiling politely. |
