Like yourself Anime has been something I have been into for a long time, oh how i remember the hardships of aquiring it, I love the fact that today in my 30+ zone i have better access and a much better quality of anime to view.
*laughs*
Exactly why I created this thread.

Those 'hardships' were something we just had to do. Wasn't something we had a choice in. And now, looking back, we were working so hard...for what can be downloaded w/in 30 minutes these days. At better quality and subbing!
But it was quite an experience, wasn't it?

I had relatives who survived the depression. When they passed away, we had to empty their basement. Living through such harsh times made them into incredible packrats. Sure, a lot of the things they had were junk, but there was some treasure there.

What does that have to do with us?
The 'young-ins' that I watch with from the University cannot understand that after I download a series, unless its completely - utterly worthless, I burn it into a DVD. I already have over 150 of them that way, with 150 backups. The 'scars' of having such a hard time finding anime, let alone the months it took to get it in, remain. And thus I find myself with a similiar, though smaller, 'quirky' behavior.

My family watch it with me, very much like the japanese, who will it as a group and watch together, there is no concept of age with anime or manga in japan, everyone regardless of age watches it, maybe that is why there are so many series where we the olderones get it quicker.
Nice.
Glad to hear its still a family affair.

And yeah, the concept of ages are much, much less pronounced over in Japan. And thus the storylines can raise the bar in so many areas (Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, even Deathnote)

I do admit, I find it interesting that somewhere along the years, I actually could catch things quicker then those around me. Age does that sometimes - strange how it creeps up on ya (more ways then one)

What should be important to everyone is that we keep it alive and well. if you are at school or working to support your family it does not matter, as long as we all keep anime moving forwards...
Amen.
