Ah, ah, ah! Allow me to assist you my good friend. All you need for a character is your imagination, and you already have that. You just need to think things through. What kind of character are you going for? Cute, Sexy, "Badass", Cunning, Destructive, Crybaby, Heroic, what? For one, the character should go with the setting and plot. Two, the character needs a personality. Three, the character needs tuning. What do I mean by tuning? Tuning is the style of the character, as well as all the minor details. Alignment (Good, Indifferent, Evil), Political Though Process (Lawful or Chaotic), Body (including clothes and hair), Belongings, Place in story, etc.
Plus, I'll give you three paths commonly used in making characters: Childhood Friend, Maid, and Robot. Childhood Friend: If the character has known the main character for a long time, it sets a certain tone. The reader knows that the two have known each other for a long time, and that relationship may develop into something more romantic. In which, draws readers in. Yes? Maid: Almost every guy into anime would love an anime chick (moe most likely) as his personal servant. Maids are often attractive in both body and nature, and are quite polite. Maids in manga create what I'd like to call the nosebleed effect. You are familiar what a nosebleed is in anime, right? In so, you will draw the more visual readers to your manga. Robot: Robots are just straight up cool. Plus, they create the safe effect as the Maids, but in a different way. Often a main character can try and teach a robot character what being human is like. If blended correctly with the right plot and everything, you can go Chobits~esque and make it a romance. Three basic paths of character making. In terms of plot twists, it's all up to you. Make it fit the story, hopefully you can surprise everyone as much as possible. There are many variations of plot twists, you just need to sit down and think about some. I would suggest you try and fool with logic, some interesting plot twists can be born when you do. Well, that's my two cents. (If you need help, ask me anytime )
