Private First Class Hosea J. Pierce
United States Marine Corps Private First Class Pierce was born on May 24, 1987 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He attended Douglas Byrd High School and shortly after graduation he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. On June 11, 2007 he entered recruit training at MCRD Parris Island. Upon graduation he was sent to Marine Combat Training (MCT) in Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Shortly after graduating MCT he was assigned to his MOS School Alpha Company Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School, Twenty-nine Palms, California. On January 11, 2008 he suffered appearant heart failure while engaged in the sprints portion of physical training. On January 23, 2008 he was buried with full honors. On January 24, 2008 his company paid respect to the loss of a friend and family member. I met PFC Pierce at all steps of his training, boot camp, MCT, and MCCES 29 Palms. I do not claim to have known him well, but he was a fellow Marine. I had the pleasure of speaking to his mother over the phone just after the service held for PFC Pierce on January 24. Although I am sadened for her loss, he words fill me with even more sadness. I am a young Marine, barely out of basic training, not even in the fleet, but, like all Marines, I feel a strong bond to my fellow Marines, whether I knew them or not. He words were these, "Don't mourn for my son, but for the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen whom are known only to family and friends. My son never saw what they see, and he didn't die in battle, but he was preparing as best he could so he's fellow service members wouldn't either. Mourn for the ones not known, and pray for their families." His mother, his family, his friends, and the Marine Corps have lost a good person. It isn't the ones the have fought, are fighting, or will fight that make Marines as strong as they are. It is the countless people behind them, their family, friends, the United States of America, and the world. The people make Marines strong, and there is no greater reward than for those whom make us strong to recognize those whom were not strong enough to make it home. To the Pierce family, Basic Electronics Classes 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, and 09.5, Alpha Company, Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School, Twenty-nine Palms, California, salute you and wish the best of your futures. I'm not religious, I'm not the "nice" kind of person, but I am a Marine, and I ask all Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen to join me in honoring Private First Class Hosea J. Pierce, and all our service members whom have and will give their lifes. Marines' Prayer Almighty Father whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guaring me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I may face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my Family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps has entrusted tome. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold. If I am incined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me stronger to resist; if I should miss the mark give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer, AMEN Christopher G. Esbrandt, LCpl, USMC |
