Thanks. As far as what I use the servers for, mostly internet stuff. Sixteen websites on them, six DNS domains, WarFTP, Worlds of Warcraft server, an Active Directory, Symantec Antivirus server, SQL Server 2005, & Backup Exec. I think that's about it.

Nah, it's mostly old stuff. Those PowerEdge 350 servers for example were $20 each with no hdd/memory. I had old PC133 memory and I have a box full of hard drives so the costs for those boxes were very slight. Active Directory, firewalls and stuff like that don't require a powerful machine so they work fine on old gear like that. The Xeon 1U web server was only $500 from geeks.com. The worst was the file server. 4U chassis with redundant power was $1150, RAID hardware $850, hard drives $4320, then the rest (mobo, cpu, tape, etc) were $875 for a total of ~$7200. I'm also using the cheaper Western Digital Green SATA drives, WD10EACS. I shudder at the thought of doing the same setup in Ultra320 SCSI lol. All totalled with the UPS, rack, LCD, switches, etc etc came to a little over $10k. My electric bill also jumped from around ~$100/mo to ~$180/mo. Part of the problem electrically is having to run a window AC unit constantly to keep the garage cool. Those machines put out alot of heat, and normally a rack like that is in a room kept around 65 degrees. My garage, with the AC going, stays around 75-78. I'll probably burn up hard drives sooner this way, but at least using those WD SATAs they're not too expensive to replace. Been about eight months, so far no problems with the drives yet. (crossing fingers hehe)
