Well i was wondering how ppl learn a new language is it by studying it in school or university or by reading books or something like that....personally i learned English mainly from TV educational programmes, games, movies and the dictionary i used to memories the lines of spme movies like robocop lol i still remember the line"dead or alive your coming with me!" and i think english is an easy languge to understand and to read and such and all the ppl in the world speak it so it's usefull ....so any way aside from english is there any languge u wish to learn and how do u intend to learn it ? and what for? and how many languge do u speak ?

I want to learn Japanese so I can watch/read raws w/o having to wait for fansub groups, hehe. I tried Rosetta Stone software, didn't like it. Checked various websites, had some success but it was slow going and I had a hard time keeping up with it. Bought a few books, learned some but it sucked not being able to hear stuff.

What I found that seems to be best is a private tutor. I found a guy who is fluent in English and Japanese and I pay him to give me private lessons. It's great because I'm learning, and it's live with a real person so it's interesting and keeps me motivated and when I have questions I can get immediate answers.

So as far as learning languages, I highly recommend person-person learning.

I think the best way is to only speek the language which you want to learn. the first thing you must do is learn to speak the basics of a language, then go to written.

Rather than just going to the country, it would be better for you to be "trapped there" (ie no way out) that way, you'd be better motivated to learn

Rossetta Stone works a bit ( for basic stuff )

depending on your age, person to person learning might not work

I want to learn:
1. Japanese-Well, just because I'm interested, I plan to learn it by attending classes if I am allowed. Turned out I have to finish my Form 5 exams first (So 2 more years). And also from books, watching anime and asking some friends.

2. Chinese(Mandarin)- Because I am a chinese and it is an embarrassing thing not to know your own language. I am learning it from my friends who went to chinese school and also my mum.

3. Maybe Tamil-Because my country is a mixture of different cultures(Mainly Malay, Chinese and Indian). So learning this language may be a good thing. Also going to learn it by my friends.

I know:
1. English

2. Malay(I'm ok with this language but hardly practice it)

3. Chinese(Cantonese)-Learned by speaking wih my grandparents

4. Japanese (very little)

5. Sign language (but only from A-Z not actions)

My school only teaches english, malay and mandarin. mostly to writing instead of speaking. I don't have the basics so I can't learn chinese.

Well, i'm learning Japanese at school, so it's teacher - student, like a real thing, i've learned a lot, and can understand more than i can speak, Japanese is a pretty hard language to learn because of all the characters (Kanji, hiragana, katakana) but once you have the basics (hiragana and katakana), the rest comes pretty easily, the only thing is that you need to be constantly using it or else you forget.
Other than that, i can speak Croatian fluently as well as read and write well, i never went to any school for that, and didn't pick up a Croatian book till i was about 10, although my parents spoke it a lot when i was younger. So, i just picked it up from birth it's awesome, no work required

Well being tri lingual, I know from experience, the BEST way to learn a language is to speak it and find someone to speak it with.

Sure classes etc will help give you the base (If you're motivated) , but in the end if you want to learn it, you have to speak the language and while speaking it you'll pick up new words and new phrases and new ways of saying things. That's the only way to do it in my opinion.
