If you are talking about device but not software, I doubt that they can't read MKV files. The reason is that mkv box is not the international format, and most of the DVD player dont support H264 codec which is used for most of MKV and MP4.
but if you really want to have a player like that, you should find some player (linksys kiss 1600,Lim 200i..., etc) which support h264 format. (sorry, but I dont have any dvd player since I built my own HTPC) Now, the problem is how to convert MKV to another format without converting? you dont want to lessen your video quality, dont you? (I hate to convert too though it is my job hehehe): +MKV is just a box, it would be easier to just pick out what are inside. +use any mkv extractor to take out video file, audio file, sub file, chappter file. +need another tool for muxing to transfer all those file to mp4 box. +that's all, cuz all the player that support h264 also support MP4 format. +No need to waste your time to convert or use any converter, those are just for amateur. Pro know what to do ^^. +any question, just ask on.... doom9 Build a HTPC may bring you more option for the same price. ![]()

but according to dvtq, there are DVD players that can play h264? I used empty BluRay to burn like SUPER HD Movies in. Like ones that like 20GB in size. I used the dual layer disc (so damn expensive) and THIS SOFTWARE to burn it. I also tried using that software to rip a PS3 game but with no luck. still i wasted a LOT of money on just those two discs...

You're just gonna have to convert it to AVI. I have ( or had ) media playing device that COULD play MP4's, but didn't work on MKV's. Sorry :/
