The biggest differences between a 40GB and a 60GB Ps3 is the memory difference, 60GB obviously has more. The 40GB lacks the backwards compatibility (playing Ps2 games on the Ps3) that the 60GB has. The other difference I can think about is that the 60GB has more USB ports than the 40GB. I'd suggest doing a little more research before you decide to buy one. I bought the 40GB because it was cheaper and I didn't need the backwards compatibility since my Ps2 is still working fine.

yeah, pretty much its a good deal cause its sold here for 400$-430$. gonna wait till the price drops

thanks for explaining EsN ,and im with u jaked im waiting for the prices to drop too and the 60g ps3 has stopped shipping here they say it has some kind of malfunction or something so only 40g ps3's are sold here.

No prob w07. At first I wanted to wait for a price drop as well, but I doubt that there will be another one anytime soon. If it does come, it probably will be a $50 price drop and not another $100 drop. Doing that math, even if the Ps3 dropped another $50 it'd still cost more than what I got it for, at least here in Texas

Just an FYI PS announced at E3 that Now all they are making is two 80 gig models. One for $400 and the other for $500. The first one is exactly like the 40 gig rite now and the other has a memory card reader, backward capability, and is still $500.

Yeah, a 40gb should be enough for now, but once games start getting huge and need tons of room, everyone is going to screwed LOL.

Hope that doesn't happen anytime soon.

Actually this won't be a problem. I looked this up last night actually, but you can simply replace the old Ps3 harddrive with a new laptop harddrive. This means you can turn a 40gb or 60gb Ps3 into a 250gb Ps3 for not a lot of money (about $100-$200 is the cheapest I saw)

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Sony has attempted to launch a patch for the 40gig to be able to play older games. Not too sure about this though ( not all old games are compatible online, regardless if its a 40 or 60 gig )

I believe newegg.com has some good offers for new hard-drives for the PS3

I don't think the 40gig Ps3 could play Ps2 games even with a patch. I'm not sure if it would be able to read the disks. If they could make such an update, I'd jump on it the second it came out
