Start with the 1-st volume of course. Manga tells the story before, while and after anime. Things shown in the anime are volumes 3(from chapter 4)up to volume 13. Then anime stops and manga goes on. I don't think you should skip thoes chapters as there where some things changed in the anime due to the lack of money (they also needed to put all those volumes in extremely short form of 26 anime episodes).
